Mr. Cha, in his column "Mr. and Mrs. Clinton and the Korean peninsula" on his website, referred the U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and her husband, the former president, Bill Clinton as "a couple from the U.S." and criticized them. He expressed his annoyance by saying, "The Clintons are controlling the Korean peninsula. A few days ago, Mrs. Clinton denounced North Korea for its pursuit of nuclear weapons, but now Mr. Clinton has visited North Korea and offered his hand in reconciliation."
Also he said, "I don't know if the Clintons have discussed their contradictory behavior with one another. But it perplexes us Koreans. There are so many different explanations for their moves. Some claim that the U.S. never meant to maintain its tense relationship with North Korea and that Mrs. Clinton's saying 'there's no negotiation with North Korea on the nuclear issue' is actually another way of expressing the U.S.'s intention of beginning a [general] dialogue." On the other hand, some say that Mr. Clinton's visit was only for the purpose of winning the release of the hostages from North Korea and that the U.S. policy on North Korea and nuclear weapons has not actually changed."
He continued, "whatever the truth is, I am discontent that the Korean peninsula laughs and cries based on the contradictory moves of a particular family who are not even officials of the U.S. government [sic!!!]. Why are the U.S.'s actions so unclear?"
"The relationship between the U.S. and South Korea has changed a lot. The U.S. has to deal with regions other than East Asia, and East Asia, in addition to us, also includes China and Japan. If that's the case, then we need to change, too. We should be able to express our own voice as Israel does to the U.S. and as North Korea does to China." said Mr.Cha. "We cannot rely on the U.S.'s protection in security and economic matters any longer. We have to get strong. Then there won't be this comedy in which the Korean peninsula cries and laughs due to this American couple's unclear behaviors"
He claimed, "Then, the alliance [between the U.S. and South Korea] will get tighter."
